These databases in Simpson Library provide full-text articles, book reviews, and other documents. When readily available, each book review source listed includes its years of coverage.

A guide to book reviews that includes more than 5,225,000
review citations from thousands of publications, as well as links to 630,000
full-text reviews.
Provides author, title, and keyword searching.
Coverage extends from 1965 to date.
Books
in Print (Global Edition) coverage varies widely.
Includes books available from American publishers,
as well as titles that are out of print.
Provides full-text reviews for many of the books listed.

Provides access to thousands of full-text works from
magazines, newspapers, newswires, and reports from around the world.
Horn
Book
Features short, critical reviews of children's and
young adult books published since 1990. The reviews identify strengths and weaknesses
of the books and rate them on a scale from one to five. Searchable by author,
title, subject, bibliographic data, and rating.
Infotrac
OneFile, 1980 to the present
Contains full-text articles, as well as citations and
abstracts.
Provides access to a variety of general, academic,
and subject-oriented databases.

Provides access to critical analyses and biographical information on living and deceased authors from around the world.
To find book reviews, do an “advanced” search on the author’s name and the title of the book.
LexisNexis
Academic, coverage varies widely
Contains full-text articles, reviews, and other documents.
Provides access to news, business, legal, and reference
information.
To locate reviews, click on the appropriate subject
area (most reviews are in General News Topics) and enter
1. the author's name in the "keyword" window
2. the book title as an "additional term"
3. other pertinent information as needed.
Although you can find abstracts of book reviews in most of these sources, keep in mind that summaries are not included with all citations.

FirstSearch
databases
Provides access to dozens of indexes and databases
in a variety of disciplines.
Some of the subject-specific databases cite book reviews
in their respective fields.
Most of these databases provide indexing back to the
mid-1980s; check each one for exact coverage.
Many of Simpson Library's computer databases provide periodical indexing from the present back only to the 1980s. You can find review citations to older books in some excellent print sources, as well as in several databases. When readily available, each book review source listed includes its years of coverage.

Periodicals Index Online (formerly PCI), 1665-1995
Indexes over 1,700 periodicals in the humanities and
social sciences.
Users can limit the scope of their searches to "book
reviews only" by selecting the appropriate radio button.
Searching can be confusing! To locate reviews,
use the general keyword window and enter
1. the author's last name
2. followed by the word "and"
3. then the book title. E.g., "hemingway and sun
also rises."
Factiva
Provides access to thousands of full-text works from
magazines, newspapers, newswires, and reports from around the world.
LexisNexis
Academic, coverage varies widely
Contains full-text articles, reviews, and other documents.
Provides access to news, business, legal, and reference
information.

Lists book reviews from selected American, Canadian,
and British periodicals.
Includes excerpts from many of the reviews.
Be sure to check annual volumes corresponding to book's
publication date, as well as 1-2 succeeding volumes.
American
Periodicals Series Online, 1740 to 1900+
Provides digitized images of more than 1,000 American magazines and journals
published from the colonial era to the beginning of the 20th century.
Users can limit the scope of their searches to book reviews by:
1. Click on "Advanced Search"
2. Choose "Article type" from the first drop-down menu
and click on the "Browse article types" link that pops up. Click on the "Add
to Search" button opposite the word "Review."
3. Type the author's name and the title of the book
in the following two windows and click "Search."

Lists reviews appearing in several hundred periodicals.

National Library Service Cumulative Book Review Index, 1905-1974

Cites book reviews from the periodicals Choice,
Library Journal, and Saturday Review.
If a review is listed in the print Book Review Digest
(see above), a reference is made to the appropriate volume.

An Index to Book Reviews in the Humanities, 1960-1990 (REFB Z
1035 .AI I63)
Lists reviews from several hundred popular and scholarly
periodicals.
Be sure to check annual volumes corresponding to book's
publication date, as well as 1-2 succeeding volumes.
Many print periodical indexes cite book reviews, including
some subject-specific journal indexes that are now available through FirstSearch.
Be sure to read the introductory material of each paper index before attempting
to find reviews, as the location of book review sections varies not only from
index to index but also from year to year within the same index.

Covers U. S. and Canadian history from earliest times

Abstracts, 1955 to the present
Covers all aspects of history (excluding the United
States and Canada) from 1450 to the present.
Humanities
Abstracts, 1984 to the present
Indexes a broad range of some 500 magazines and journal
publications in the humanities.
Covers topics in archaeology and classical studies,
folklore, history, language and literature, performing arts, philosophy, religion,
and related subjects.
