Provides digitized images of more than 1,000 American magazines and journals published from the colonial era to the beginning of the 20th century.
Covers history, politics, the arts and sciences, folklore, and popular culture.

A citation index that includes over 1.4 million records, referencing more than 1,300 of the world's leading arts and humanities journals.

ARTstor
A collection of some 300,000 images that documents numerous artistic traditions and cultures from around the world.
The ARTstor Charter Collection contains one general collection (the Image Gallery) and eight specialized collections, all of which embrace painting, architecture, photography, sculpture, design, the decorative arts, and other forms of visual culture.
Users can view and analyze images through zooming and panning, though computer pop-up blocking software must be disabled or set to allow pop-ups.

Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals
Indexes more than 700 American and international periodicals in architecture and design.
Covers topics such as historic preservation, landscape architecture, archaeology, city planning, the history and practice of architecture, interior design and decoration, urban planning, and related subjects.
Includes some 13,000 obituary citations.
Coverage extends from 1934 to date, with selective coverage back to 1741. Updated weekly.

The Civil War: A Newspaper Perspective
Provides the full text of "major articles" from more than 2,500 issues of the New York Herald, the Charleston Mercury, and the Richmond Enquirer from November 1, 1860, to April 15, 1865.
The database furnishes not only news articles and eyewitness accounts of battles and events, but it also includes pieces on travel, sports, social occasions, and arts and leisure.

Digital Sanborn Maps - Virginia
Provides access to 678 full-image maps of 132 Virginia cities and towns.
Coverage varies, but many Virginia localities include maps dating from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century.

Greenwood Daily Life Online
Looks at the everyday lives of people throughout history (antiquity to present) from the material, religious, domestic, political, recreational, intellectual, and economic viewpoints. Based on numerous primary and secondary resources, the database includes historical overviews, maps, illustrations, chronologies, and sidebars. Organized by time period, region, and topic.

HarpWeek: The Civil War Era and Reconstruction (1857-1877)
Provides full-text access to 21 years of Harper's Weekly, a leading 19th-century illustrated newspaper.
Researchers can search the full text, browse the individual issues, or use the thesaurus-based index. They can also browse through the categories of Geography, Literary Genre, Occupation or Role in Society, and Topic Headings.

Covers all aspects of history (excluding the United States and Canada) from 1450 to the present.

Humanities Abstracts
Indexes a broad range of some 500 magazines and journal publications in the humanities.

Provides access to a variety of general, academic, and subject-oriented databases.  Of particular use is Expanded Academic ASAP, which indexes more than 600 journals in most academic disciplines, and InfoTrac OneFile, which provides access to the articles in all the Infotrac databases.

Iter -- Gateway to the Middle Ages and Renaissance
A bibliography of some 250,000 articles and reviews from more than 400 journals pertaining to the Middle Ages and the Renaissance (400-1700).
Updated daily, with over 60,000 new records added each year.

National Security Archive
Free organized collections of declassified primary documents in foreign affairs and domestic politics obtained through Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) by journalists and scholars, hosted by George Washington University.
Covers from 1930s to present.

NYPL Digital Gallery
Furnishes access to more than 275,000 images digitized from primary sources and other works in the New York Public Library, including books, illuminated manuscripts, maps, photographs, and even printed ephemera such as posters, menus, and post cards.
Researchers can search by keyword or browse by name, subject, and library center.
The Digital Gallery's Collection Guides lead to topical collections of images.

Official Documents of the United Nations
Includes the full texts of some 800,000 United Nations documents, including resolutions of the General Assembly, Security Council, and the Trusteeship Council.
Most of the documents date from the early 1990s, but older-and newer--works are continually added.

Patrologia Latina
The electronic version of publisher Jacques-Paul Migne's 217-volume Patrologia Latina (printed from 1844 to 1855), and the corresponding four index volumes (1862 to 1865).
The set covers the works of the Church Fathers from Tertullian in 200 A.D. to the death of Pope Innocent III in 1216.

Periodicals Index Online (formerly PCI)
Indexes some 10 million articles in the arts, humanities, and social sciences.
Provides author, title, and keyword access to the table-of-contents pages of more than 2,700 worldwide periodicals.

Documents range in time from the pre-eighteenth century (e.g., the Code of Hammurabi in ancient Babylon) to the twentieth century.
Search engine allows keyword searching.

Documenting the American South
Maintained by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
A collection of documents on southern history, culture, and literature from the colonial period to 1920.

Documents for the Study of American History
A comprehensive, easy-to-use bibliography of primary sources.
Documents are organized chronologically as one Web page.

Documents in Military History
Maintained by Hillsdale College.
Concentrates principally on European military history before the twentieth century.
Search engine allows keyword searching.

EuroDocs:  Primary Historical Documents from Western Europe
Includes historical documents, in chronological order, that focus on significant events within cultural, economic, political, and social history.
Texts in the two categories "Medieval and Renaissance Europe" and "Europe as a Supernational Region" are followed by listings arranged alphabetically by country.

Fourth World Documentation Project
Created and maintained by the Center for World Indigenous Studies.
Provides full-text documents relating to the political, social, economic, and human rights situations faced by Fourth World nations ("nations forcefully incorporated into states which maintain a distinct political culture but are internationally unrecognized").
Documents include essays, resolutions, position papers, treaties, and United Nations materials.

Historical Text Archive
Contains historical texts and secondary research materials for the study of world history.
Material is organized in three categories:  Geographical (by country); Topical (African-American, Articles, Genealogy, Native American, Sports, Teaching, War, Women); and Resources (Archives, Bibliographies, Databases, General, History Departments, Journals).
