The resources of UMW Libraries are available to the general public for in-house use. Those users, who wish to borrow material, but have no current University of Mary Washington affiliation, may do so either by applying for a Guest Patron Card or by utilizing the Central Rappahannock Regional Library's Document Delivery service.

Persons who are unable to use either of the options presented below are encouraged to use the Interlibrary Loan services of their local public libraries.

Guest Patron Cards

Application for a Guest Patron card must be made at the Circulation Desk at Simpson Library. Upon satisfactory completion of the application and a payment (cash or check) of $75.00, a library card will be authorized for residents of Virginia over the age of eighteen. Educators employed by the Commonwealth of Virginia receive a discounted rate. Payment will not be refunded for any reason.

The applicant must make arrangements to have the photo ID card made at the EagleOne Card Center. The card is valid for one year from the date of application. No materials will be loaned until the applicant has the card in hand.

The Guest Patron card is not transferable. The cardholder is responsible for all materials circulated on this card as well as any charges that are incurred. This card does not entitle the Guest Patron to Interlibrary Loan service, Document Delivery services, or off-campus database access. The Guest Patron cannot place recalls or holds on items that are checked out. It is further understood that materials loaned are for the personal use of the borrower.

Library policies are subject to change without notice.

For further information see: Overview of Fees and Loan Periods.

CRRL Document Delivery

Persons who have borrowing privileges with the Central Rappahannock Regional Library system may use the CRRL's Document Delivery service to obtain items from Simpson Library.

Request needed items at any branch of the Central Rappahannock Regional Library. CRRL will request the items from Simpson Library. A CRRL courier stops at Simpson Library once daily, Monday through Friday, for pickup and delivery. The requested materials will be delivered to the branch that initiated the loan. Items are loaned for an 8-week, non-renewable period and are subject to recall. Telephone requests and hand-carried loans are not permitted.

Central Rappahannock Regional Library Headquarters is located at 1201 Caroline Street in downtown Fredericksburg. Phone 540-372-1144.
