TALON MODULE 3: Finding Background Information
Locating Reference Materials

Although the most useful reference materials may be found in the Reference area of the Library, other reference sources may be located in the Library stacks or on the web.

How can you find good reference sources?

There are three key ways to locate reference sources:

  • You can look up reference materials in the Library's catalog.
  • You can use a subject research guide or handbook that may list the major information sources in the field of study.
  • You can browse the reference collection in the call number area(s) assigned to your topic.
  • You can always ask a reference librarian for suggestions as well!
