TALON MODULE 3: Finding Background Information
Locating Reference Materials in a Subject Research Guide or Handbook

Research guides and handbooks in specific fields of study may list reference materials in that subject. These are reference books about other reference books.

Use the catalog to locate these items in the Library. Many are listed under the subject heading Reference Books, or they may be listed under a subject with the subheading Bibliography or Research--Methodology (i.e. Business--Bibliography OR Business--Research--Methodology).

Some examples of these include:

  • Education: a Guide to Reference and Information Sources
  • Encyclopedia of Business Information Sources
  • Fundamental Reference Sources
  • Information Sources in Science and Technology
  • Literary Research Guide
  • Reference Sources in History
  • Tapping the Government Grapevine: the User-Friendly Guide to U.S. Government Information Sources
