TALON MODULE 3: Finding Background Information
Locating Reference Materials by Browsing

To locate print reference materials, you can browse the appropriate subject area in the Reference collection.

The Simpson Library map, part of the Library's Virtual Tour, shows where the Reference area is located. The Stafford Library also has a Reference collection.

To find the correct call number area, you can use the Library of Congress Classification Schedule. You may also look up the subject in the catalog and use the call number of any useful item you locate to guide you to the appropriate call number area. Reference materials use the same subject-based call numbers as other library items; they are just located in a small collection in a special area.

To locate electronic reference materials, go to the Library's home page at http://www.library.umw.edu.

Many electronic and Internet-based reference materials are also listed in the Library's catalog.
