Encyclopedias contain brief overview articles on a wide range of subjects. Encyclopedias are frequently sets of multiple volumes and may cover a broad range of subjects or focus on a single subject area. Works like the Encyclopedia of Earth and Physical Sciences and The Oxford Encyclopedia of American Literature are called subject encyclopedias.
