TALON MODULE 3: Finding Background Information
Biographical Dictionaries and Sources

Biographical dictionaries give information about people's lives and accomplishments. Although biographical dictionaries are usually the best sources for biographies, there are many other types of reference sources that may include biographical information.

An index entitled Biography and Genealogy Master Index (BGMI) can guide you to a reference source containing information on a particular individual. Another source, Biography Index, is an index to biographical material in books, magazines, journals, juvenile literature, interviews, obituaries, and related sources.

Some examples of biographical dictionaries include:

  • Baker's Biographical Dictionary of Musicians
  • Biographical Dictionary of Psychology
  • Biography.com
  • Contemporary Authors
  • Current Biography
  • Dictionary of American Biography
  • Encyclopedia of World Biography
  • Who's Who in the United States
