TALON MODULE 5: Using the Library Catalog
What Is It?

What is a library catalog?

Essentially, a catalog is an inventory of the materials made available by a library to its users. Library materials may be items physically located within a library building, or they may be electronic materials accessed over the Internet.

Most libraries now have online computerized catalogs, although some still have the old card catalog consisting of cards filed in drawers. There are several computerized library catalog systems, and different libraries may customize these catalog systems to function in different ways.
