Record Interpretation

The full record includes the bibliographic information about the book, journal or other type of item. Different types of items will include different fields. Many of the fields will not be present in most of the records.

Some of the fields included on the full record display are:

call number
author
title
edition
publication information
-- publisher
-- place of publication
-- date
material information

number of pages

ill.(indicates that the item includes illustrations)
--
bib. or bibl. (indicates that the item includes a bibliography)
--
x cm. (indicates the height of the book for shelving purposes)
notes (any important information such as the contents of a collection of works)
subject headings

The location/availability record includes the local information about the item. Journals, newspapers, series of books and other materials issued on an ongoing basis will have holdings information to indicate the format and volumes available. call number
location (indicates the area in the Library where the item is shelved)
status (indicates if item is available or checked out, including due date)
