Subject and Keyword Comparison

In general, a keyword search will provide a larger number of matches than a subject search. A keyword search across all fields will usually provide more matches than a search in a single field. Just remember that you may get some strange matches if you search all fields!

Let's look at a slide show that compares the results of a subject heading search, a keyword search in the subject field, and a keyword search in any field. Our search term is endangered species.

Example:

SUBJECT AND KEYWORD SEARCH COMPARISON - six slides

Our subject search found 28 exact matches with several additional subheading listings.
Our keyword search in the subject field found 94 matches.
Our keyword search in all fields found 125 matches.
