The Change to Databases

An increasing number of periodical indexes that used to exist only in paper form are now available online in databases. (It is important to remember, however, that the older paper versions are essential for historical information as most databases cover magazines and journals published just in the last couple of decades.)

What is a database? A database is a compilation of data stored in computer-readable form and retrieved by use of a computer. The UMW Libraries' catalog is an example of a database.
