TALON MODULE 6: Finding Periodical Articles
Keyword Searching in Databases

This is where keyword (also called free text) searching is handy. While a subject heading search retrieves articles by searching the subject fields in a database’s records, a keyword search of significant terms on your topic:

locates items through not only the subject field but additional fields as well. These others are usually such important fields as the title and abstract, though in some databases other fields may also be searched, such as the full-text of articles in full-text databases.

instead of looking under one word or phrase (a limitation of not only subject searches but all paper indexes), you can combine multiple terms.
