The poster shown is entitled "The Greatest Mother on the Earth" and is by Alonzo Earl Foringer. It was an outstandingly successful poster, much reprinted. Its appeal lies in religious associations with the Virgin and Child. The Greatest Mother figure was unofficially adopted as a trademark of the Red Cross and was brought into service again in identical form in World War II. |
